Nottingham gets its first legal poker club

The first totally legal poker club in Britain is due to open in early December in Nottingham.

Rob Young, managing director of Dusk Till Dawn, was granted a casino licence in September and is chomping on the bit to get his first customers through the doors.

He said: “It’s been a long struggle but it’s been worth it. The club is looking great and I know the poker community are going to love it.”

Such has been the demand at the new casino/poker club that all the opening events sold out very quickly and the club expects many top names on the first day of play.

“I never had any doubts that we would sell all our seats for the opening weekend. We can’t rest on our laurels now though as the real challenge is to make Dusk Till Dawn the best club in Europe and keep players coming through our door over the years to follow,” said Simon Trumper, the club’s poker director.

Dusk Till Dawn’s online counterpart will also allow players to buy-in to events online and then turn up with ID and take their seat at the poker tables.

It has certainly been a long struggle for the club and, despite some serious arguments in favour of the club, there was strong resistance from the local council and the local police.

However, the club successfully argued that it was only a poker club and not in effect a casino, and therefore did not have to satisfy some of the strict local council rules.

Earlier this year, the Gutshot Poker Club in London was forced to close down after it unsuccessfully fought a court case in which it contended that poker was a game of skill rather than a game of chance.
