Casino gives XXXX for gambler

Author: Simon Dexter

Littlewoods Internet Casino, as the trusted name in gaming, has always encouraged responsible online casino gambling. It has always been the belief of Littlewoods, as a safe online casino, not to encourage anyone to gamble what they can’t afford.

From the sounds of it, one Australian might have been better off heading some of that advice:

An Australian gambler is suing a casino where he claims to have lost 10 million pounds.

Harry Kakavas, 40, is taking both the casino and its chief executive to court over his year-long gambling binge that ended late last year.

His legal representatives explained to the court that Kakavas had asked the casino to ban him from playing at their tables back in 1994, in an effort to cut back on his gambling losses.

They claim that the casino began attempting to lure back the errant gambler in 2004, when they discovered the property developer had been flying out to Las Vegas to continue playing his favourite game - baccarat.

“They deliberately set out to identify a punter they knew they could win large sums of money from,” his lawyers told the court.

The casino allegedly lured Kakavas from the Gold Coast (800 miles) to Northern Australia with up to 30 free private plane flights, numerous cash gifts of up to £20,000 and a promised 20 per cent refund on losses.

The casino’s lawyers suggest that the gambler was not forced to do anything.

“You should be responsible for your own actions - don’t blame somebody else,” the court was told.

“He chose to go to Las Vegas when he wanted to and to Crown casino when he wanted to. He wants to blame the casino for his losses when he had the ability to walk away.”

The casino is attempting to have the suit rejected by Harper without a trial during a two-day preliminary hearing that ends this month.

After hearing Crown’s argument to have Mr Kakavas’ suit thrown out, the judge questioned whether he should be looking at policy regarding problem gamblers.

“Pathological gamblers ought to be protected from themselves,” he said. “There’s a social responsibility for operators of these establishments to ensure that they do not actively create harm by their commercial operations.”

I’m not sure how online casinos could encourage gamblers to stay on their sites - perhaps pay for their broadband connection or send free pizzas around!

Perhaps I was not losing too much in my local betting shop - the manager never called me over and offered to pay my bus fare home. To get that I had to ask one of the regulars.”

For the best online gaming, choose Littlewoods Internet Casino.
