Roulette History

The history of roulette originates in 17th century France, its literal translation means 'small wheel'. Roulette was a concept devised by mathematician Blaise Pascal; a man allegedly fascinated with perpetual motion devices. The idea was adopted by early casino establishments in Monte Carlo and it was fellow Frenchmen Louis and Francoise Blanc who included the number 0 in order to increase house odds in 1842. The game of roulette grew with popularity throughout the 19th century to become one of the most popular casino games in Europe and the U.S., indeed one that is associated with the glamour and charm of the early Monte Carlo gaming establishments.

As legend would tell you, it is claimed that Francoise Blanc sold his soul to the devil in order to gain secrets of the game of roulette. Although this theory sounds far fetched, it is true that when all numbers (1 to 36) are added together you gain a total of 666; the number of the beast!

Legend & history aside, there is no dispute that roulette today, in both traditional and online casinos, is as popular as ever. The game is celebrated because of its simplicity, fun and excitement. So why not play online roulette today at Littlewoods Casino?
